Man-sik, a local from the Haeundae District of Busan, unexpectedly loses Yeon-hee's father while based on a deep-sea fishing boat in the Indian Ocean during the 2004 tsunami, due to an error in judgement. Because of this, he could not become involved with Yeon-hee, who runs an unlicensed seafood restaurant, despite her attempts to start a relationship.
Hwi notices that the Sea of Japan (known as the East Sea in Korea) is displaying similar activity to what was observed in the Indian Ocean five years prior. Despite his warnings, the Disaster Prevention Agency assures him that South Korea is at no risk, but a large megatsunami forms because of a landslide near Japan and starts to travel towards Busan, where millions of beachgoers are vacationing. Hwi realizes that the citizens of Busan have only 10 minutes to escape. A short earthquake (a minor aftershock) hits Busan, before the sea starts receding from the shore, causing mass hysteria as people realize a tsunami is coming. Thousands of people run for their lives before the tsunami reaches Haeundae and continues into Busan. Dong-choon, Seung-hyun, his grandmother, and other people on the Gwangan Bridge are swept away by the sea. A telephone pole collapses, electrocuting everyone in the water, but Man-sik and Yeon-hee survive. Dong-choon awakens on the bridge, but when he tries and fails to light a cigarette and subsequently discards the lighter out of frustration, it falls into petrol leaking from a tanker, causing an explosion that severs the bridge in half, sending shipping containers flying into buildings on the shore.
Hyeong-sik jumps down from a rescue helicopter and saves Hee-mi in the sea. When Hyeong-sik and Joon-ha are together on the rope, Hyeong-sik realizes the rope is about to break, and only one can go up to the helicopter. He cuts the connected rope and falls into the violent sea. The elevator Yoo-jin is trapped in floods with water, and she talks in tears to her daughter Ji-min on her phone. A worker saves Yoo-jin. On the roof, she meets Ji-min and Hwi. The two help their daughter get on a crowded rescue helicopter. Before the helicopter leaves, Hwi tells his daughter that he is really her father. Yoo-jin and Hwi hug each other before another megatsunami kills them.
After the tsunami, there is a memorial service for the thousands of people who died, including Hyeong-sik and Man-sik's uncle. Dong-choon finds out that his mother died as well and breaks into tears. Many people help reconstruct Busan. Man-sik, while cleaning the ruins of Yeon-hee's restaurant, finds the red ribbon which Yeon-hee said was a 'yes' to his proposal. The movie ends with a scene of Haeundae in ruins but in a hopeful atmosphere.
In a scene at the beach (Gwangalli Beach), the sea starts receding from theshore. This is an accurate portrayal of what would come before a tsunami (ortiday wave). However, the giant wave that follows the withdrawal of water ismovie fiction. Tidal waves do rush a lot of water inland. However, they do notlook like a giant wall of water hundreds of feet high. More commonly, waterflows rapidly in a series of pulses.
The movie did show the withdrawal of water correctly. However, the sizeof the wave was far greater in magnitude than would be expected fromthe greatest natural tsunami events. Also, the most common way atsunami interacts with land is through a series of pulses called wavetrains, and the movie definitely did not portray this correctly.
On Haeundae Beach, a guilt-ridden fisherman takes care of a woman whose father accidentally got killed. A scientist reunites with his ex-wife and a daughter who doesn't even remember his face. And a poor rescue worker falls in love with a rich city girl. When they all find out a gigantic tsunami will hit the beach, they realize they only have 10 minutes to escape.
File under: I have a tsunamis-on-screen fetish, okay I have to see them all. So majestic, so dramatic, so alarming.. It's 50% of what's powering me to see this weekend's \"Knock at the Cabin\" (even though I'm sure that sequence is mere seconds long and probably not even a real occurrence in the story).
Man Shik, a native of Haeundae, went deep-sea fishing four years before and lost a co-worker in a tsunami. He now leads a simple life running a small sushi shop and is preparing to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Yeon Hee. While these seemingly banal domestic affairs unfold, geologist, an expert on tsunami research, discovers the East Sea is showing signs of activity similar to the Indian Ocean at the time of the 2004 tsunami. Despite his warnings, the Disaster Prevention Agency affirms that Korea is in no harm of being hit. When he discovers a super tsunami starting in Japan and is headed straight for the Korean peninsula, with only ten minutes to spare! Edit Translation
The second hour, as Park vainly tries to persuade the Disaster Prevention Agency that a real mutha is on its way following an undersea earthquake, sees all the characters trapped in individual situations when the tsunami rolls in.
Korejcania svoj prvy rydzo katastroficky film vystruzlikali striktne podla sablony daneho zanru, ktoremu kraluje hlavne Holywood. To znamena prva polovica deja predstavenie postav v cistom cierno-bielom spektre, ich vzajomne vztahy a problemy.
Zdramatizovanie sa blíži príliš dlho a v príliš bojácnych náznakoch a celú túto dobu sme nútení sledovať bandu nezaujímavých postáv, obklopenú nie príliš vtipným humorom (nesmial som nielen ja, ticho bolo celé kino). S príchodom tsunami pekla potešia roztomilé efekty v dôkladne koncipovaných záberoch a príjemne prekvapí i zopár neohraných scenáristických nápadov (tanker opretý o most).
The analytical convolution solution of 1-D fully nonlinear shallow water equations derived by Carrier et al. (2003) is applied to estimate the maximum wave height and the inundation distance during the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. The applied area is in the east coast of Sri Lanka with latitude between 6.8N and 8N. The offshore condition for the wave form and vertically-averaged flow velocity are obtained by solving the linear version of the COMCOT tsunami model and has been verified by comparing with the record at Maldives. By taking the nearshore shelf slope as the constant bottom slope for the analytical solution, the inundation distance in the applied area is between 500m and 2.75 km, and the maximum wave height is between 4.46m and 6.63m. The max tsunami height calculated by the present method agrees very well with the in-situ measurement. Therefore, this method is a very useful tool for tsunami early warning by quickly estimating if the max wave height is higher than the seawall or the breakwater. The max inundation distance calculated by the analytic convolution solution also has reasonable agreement with the field survey, but the value of the in-situ investigation scatters widely which suggests the detailed local topography play an important role. Different method for the determination of the bottom slope is also tested and the result show that the slope should be based on the bathymetry nearshore. 59ce067264
