RETURN The Return bindings will have an all-new technology for their heel and toe lugs in 2012. The Return bindings will also be the first bindings to feature Return's new Fly line technology, which is similar to the Giro Fly line. This new material will be fiberglass filled vinyl, and the new lugs will be made out of fiberglass and thermoplastic material. I expect that they will be made using the same tooling that was used for the Zytel heel and toe lugs, which is fiberglass.
RITEPLEX On the same subject, Riteplex is about to come out with an all-new binding, and they are already using their own exclusive technology for it. In this case, I expect the lugs to be either some kind of POM material or even a different material than Zytel. I would hope that Riteplex will be careful not to use plastic in the heel and toe area when they do this, because I'm afraid that the new Riteplex binding will be just as prone to heel and toe wear out as their older Zytel bindings were, and that's just not fair to their customers.
In a side note, is anybody else getting a little irritated by the fact that the Zytel heel and toe lugs are worn out just as the Vist binding is about to become available? It seems like the Zytel lugs should have to have a couple more years of life.
