A standard trade acceptance process is to take a product or plan to an inspection station and then to perform an inspection to ensure that the product conforms to local engineering and building codes, building codes and local ordinances. The plan is sampled and inspected for dimensional accuracy, variance from drawings, and conformance with building and fire codes. The Building Code and the Building Code Ordinance (BCO) govern construction and use of commercial structures. The International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) governs the safe and usefull maintenance and repair of similar structures. The Ordinance specifies project preparation and project design, provides guidelines for contractors, ensures that documents are up-to-date and current, and requires that a general contractor be chosen, who must be experienced in construction work. The Ministry of Public Works and Highways has jurisdiction over roads and bridges. All construction projects must be approved by an inspector. A standard trade acceptance process is to take the approved plan to an inspector at a registered contractor/engineer. The inspector examines the design and ensures that it meets the applicable building, building code and fire codes. The Plan Review program is associated with the Enforcement Division. The Division has four primary functions: 1) review all inspection reports for compliance with the law and publish the reports, 2) enforce motor vehicle and trailer laws, 3) enforce and administer the commercial driver license program, and 4) promote and educate the public about the enforcement of motor vehicle and commercial driver safety laws
The review process may include: correspondence with contractors and engineers, requests for information, review and certification of the building plan, and the enforcement of any violations identified by the inspector during the plan review. All plans are reviewed by the same district engineer. Plans can be inspected at the Engineering Division, Commercial Building Plan Review Inspection Offices, or privately with a construction engineer. An engineer plan review usually includes a site visit to inspect and record the building construction and its plan, and a review of architectural drawings, electrical, mechanical and plumbing and heating, ventilating and air-conditioning plans to determine whether all plans are complete and correct. All inspections are to be completed within fifteen working days following the receipt of the plan for review. Member engineers consult with contractors and engineers to ensure that buildings are constructed in compliance with the building code. d2c66b5586
