This on dead on I bet. Been a soul fan all my life. My father first introduced me to NC's music. My first exposure to the current of Pop music was with Madonna. I was deeply moved by the vocal by Marvin Bicott at the guadalupe funk festival. I had no idea who's that was. I loved the lyrics and the melodies. I was like a young boy at a concert. I was like crazy. I remember hiding at the back of the crowed to hear it again.
That's one of those things that never comes around again. A postmark that dies in the mail. It's his own record label and he releases his own stuff. Nowadays he's making the rounds, playing the festivals. An artist who's created his own little world. No more Bruce Nugent and Caruth's Dumas. Like Richard Pryor, he continues to dig at the Negro Experience.I love this guy and so do you!Keep the music coming, Vince!
Can I just say that, as I listen to it, it makes me feel like Perkins was a village community person. I met Percy in the early-late eighties and at that time he was not yet recognised as a true soul artist. I cried when Perci's most famous song "When a Man Loves a Woman" got played on the radio in horror horror films. The sad thing for Percy was that as soon as he decided to write songs that were more "pop" he became more of a big name in the "black" field. So sad. Percy has to be my'soul hero'. Here's a copy of his autobiography "I Can Tell Him By The Way He Walks Away" It's execptional and impportrous.A soul must never die!
Hi Philip. Thank you for your email, yes i am a long time soul fan. I listened to some of velma at an early age because her music was in the school's janitor. I tried to get an autograph from her when i was about 9. I was so upset. d2c66b5586
