Sadly, the Dubai government is about to bulldoze the temple to construct an airport. The people of the Indian government have decided to fight this issue. If you had the necessary loopholes, could you also save the temple.
The 800-year-old temple, built in 1117 AD, is the only Hindu temple in Dubai. In the last decade, only 15 Hindu temples have been built in the UAE. There are other temples, mosques and church buildings in the country, but all have been built by foreigners, unlike the Padmanabha temple, which is the only temple built by the local people mainly consisting of Pallis and Ezhavas. This temple is located in the northern part of Dubai. It is the only temple to have a police station located within its premises.
There are two ways to get to the temple. One is to take a rickshaw ride from the Al Maktoum Bridge to the end of the Palm Boulevard. It takes you about 15 minutes to reach the temple. On a clear day, one can enjoy the magnificent view of the historical city of Dubai.
The second way is to take a leisurely walk along the palm trees lined boulevard. This route is also scenic and pass by the glittering metropolis of Dubai. The temple is well located to serve as a gateway to the Middle East. It stands on the higher ground amidst the lush greenery. The journey to the temple will take you through several streets that bring you to the last barrier before you reach the temple. There you will find a police station with a police officer standing there. He will ask you to produce the necessary ID proof along with a passport size photograph of yourself.
You will then be asked to get an audio-visual equipment to your left and sound recorder to your right. Once the audio-visual equipment, sound recorder, passport and necessary ID proof are duly verified, a key for the Indian passport will be given to you. You will be given a visitor pass for the time specified on the pass. After submitting the paperwork, you can enter the temple. d2c66b5586
