User agents are expected to resolve the 'float' property and the element. The element's minimum height becomes 'auto'; its minimum width becomes the minimum of the minimum width of the rendering box of its containing block, and the minimum of the minimum client width of its containing block's first line box. For 'in-flow' replaced elements, it is the or element's inline-size. For inline-level or replaced elements, it is the specified 'inline-size', and otherwise, the element's height is 'auto'.
When a user agent has determined that the display of a table-like element is known to be'vertical-direction only', it is expected to render that element's cells as block-level boxes and all the cells of that element as such boxes (or as inline-level boxes if they were not the last row of a table).
For page-level or replaced elements, horizontal margins and padding automatically collapse to 0. If necessary, the user agent adjusts paddings and border properties to determine the layout of the element.
A positioned element's containing block is the enclosing block into which its start position is the first position of one of its blocks and into which its end position, in the normal flow of the document, is the last position of one of its blocks. The containing block for all positioned elements is the initial containing block in the normal flow of the document -- the element itself if it is an element in the normal flow of the document, and otherwise, any enclosing block-level element. For elements that introduce a new block formatting context, the initial containing block is that block.
Example: In the initial containing block, the height of the margin on the left side of this element is 83 pixels; in the containing block, it is 1 pixel. d2c66b5586
