The purpose of this investigation is to develop your knowledge of mechanics and to give you experience with the concepts involved in solving problems involving motion. To help you develop your problem-solving skills and understanding of mechanics, the problems in this investigation are designed to be mathematically straightforward yet challenging. The problems are arranged in such a sequence that you should be able to solve them easily by first reading the problem statement, followed by solving the problem in a number of steps. If you get stuck on some of the problems or if you don't understand the answer at first, repeat the problems until you develop a deeper understanding of the concepts. Based on the problems you solve, you will learn basic concepts in mechanics, including vectors, acceleration and direction, and Newton's laws of motion. Some mathematical problems have been asked to help you develop your sense of logical reasoning. You will also be introduced to the linear motion of objects. The problems in this investigation will help you understand motion and motion problems. Use the clock in the upper right, and indicate the final result in the lower right-hand corner of each answer sheet.
Before you complete this investigation, you are encouraged to try your own problems. You should talk to a class mate if you need help. You should not resort to time-consuming techniques, such as messy calculations, unless you have a definite question.
It is expected that you will work at your own pace. If you have not completed a problem before you are finished with it, you should be prepared to hand in another problem or solutions of the problem. As you solve each problem, you should check your answers thoroughly to make sure you have done everything correctly. You should also write your name and your grade on the worksheet before filling in the answers. This will help you check the work of others and correct your own mistakes. All answers must be entered in the space provided at the end of the worksheet. Do not use coloured pencils or other writing materials. Use the space provided below the answer sheet to enter your answers. Your teacher will examine your work carefully. d2c66b5586
