A user has a marketing requirement to build a car over two or more assemblies. The user is faced with the problem of having to select parts, options, features, and options in a software product configurator. The problem to be solved for the configurator is how to provide the highest level of service for the customer.
Product configurators have improved the front end of the sales process, but have not necessarily improved the back end of the sales process. Product configurators can be built as a standalone tool or be a development of today’s Web 2.0 technologies that provides a rich user experience. Being a tool with a database backend, the entire front end can be built on a single platform. Alternatively, many organizations prefer to use a modular RESTful database-agnostic gateway architecture for building agile configurators.
A configurator is a question-and-answer tool, in which a business user can select features and options and click "Add" to increment the value of that feature and option.
