Kayako, the granddaughter of the head of a large and powerful business, is sexually obsessed with her employer. Her sexual obsession nets her small-time bookmaking and gives her power over her victim.
Drag Me to Hell was released in August 2009. The film played at the 67th Venice International Film Festival and the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival. The film grossed more than $201 million worldwide and was nominated for a Saturn Award. The film was released on DVD on March 20, 2010 in the United States and on May 17, 2010 on Blu-ray in Japan and on May 7, 2010 in Australia. On December 22, 2010, the United States DVD release was removed from stores. Despite only being available as a DVD, the film had been selling for hundreds of dollars on eBay, as a result of the movie's controversial nature and the extensive rumors that surround it. A special edition was released in Europe in September 2009, which included a 30-minute "making of" documentary entitled "The Curse of a Dark Place," a deleted scene, and the theatrical trailer. In total the special edition includes 2 hours 34 minutes of material.
The incarcerated, 100-year-old Kayako becomes both desperately unhappy and obsessed with a man. She is rudely awakened by a jail guard, who informs her that she is a candidate to be paroled. She is willing to do anything—even trade her freedom for a quiet life in a cozy home—in order to keep her husband alive. d2c66b5586
