It wouldn't be the holiday season without a Christmas movie that features a singer. Next in the Netflix holiday movie lineup is Christmas With You, a film following a pop star as she finds inspiration in a small town. Aimee Garcia is Angelina, a singer trying to find her sound again, and Freddie Prinze Jr. is Miguel, a music teacher that helps her along the way.
When pop star Angelina is told she needs to write a Christmas song or be dropped by her label, she tries to find inspiration everywhere in the midst of major career burnout. After watching a cover video by a young girl named Cristina (Deja Monique Cruz) on Instagram, the singer decides to make the girl's Christmas wish come true and meet the fan. In the trailer, Angelina notes that she needs to connect with her fans at that moment if she's ever going to be inspired to write a Christmas bop.
Based on the trailer, it looks like Miguel and Angelina will sing the song they collaborated on together at a large event; Cristina's quinceañera happens, and love birds fly as the magic of Christmas brings two musicians together. It seems like Angelina won't be the only one inspired to create music, either. Miguel was stuck in his songwriting but will power through with the help of the pop star.
After staring in She's All That, which recently had a gender-reversed reboot on Netflix, he continued on to other romantic comedies, including Down to You and Summer Catch. He went on to do voice work in a variety of projects, from Shark Bait to Star Wars Rebels. Christmas With You brings him back to what many know him for, but with a fun holiday twist.

Holiday romances are an abundant and varied genre, which covers popular tropes from small-town festivals, big-city workaholics, and of course, the Christmas grump who needs to be taught the meaning of Christmas with a series of heart-warming holiday-themed tasks and a lot of love. The Princess trope, however, trumps them all. After all, what more could anyone want for Christmas than a castle and a crown?
Hallmark set decorators always go all out with Christmas movies; the castle is swathed in boughs of holly, there are more Christmas trees than the average viewer could conceivably count, and everything sparkles in gold, green, and red. Royal enthusiasts will find a Queen obsessed with protocol, a number of crowns and tiaras on display, and a royal ball with a dress to match.
This movie has a bit of everything: kids decking the halls of an otherwise cold castle, gifted ballgowns, giving and forgiving, sympathetic orphans, and a butler named Winterbottom. The princess transformation from an unemployed single mother from Buffalo is particularly satisfying for those with royal holiday appetites and can be streamed on the Hallmark Channel.
Classic Hallmark romance tropes include family-favorite traditions like snowman building and snowball fights with royal twists thrown in, including arranged marriage, charity balls, and love across social classes.
This Hallmark movie has King Max (Rupert Penry-Jones) betrothed to a Countess whom he does not love. Peasant Allie, on the other hand, bonds with the staff. Royal ornaments on a perfect tree, snowball fights in front of the castle, and a romantic ball all contribute to this unlikely romance.
Jay Carter Taylor (she/her) loves movies almost as much as she loves hating movies. She's haunted film festivals including SXSW, Berlin, Tribeca, TIFF, Fantasia, Venice, and Sundance. She's never missed a single MCU movie premiere or series even though Pixar and Wes Anderson are more her style. Jay supports female directors and JEDI allyship. She has 1 spouse, 3 sisters, 4 dogs, 9 niblings, and more statement jewelry than sense. She has recently started playing Fortnite with her 8 year old nephew.
This is the second consecutive year that King Harald and Queen Sonja have opened the concert to the public. In 2011, the concert was organised in cooperation with The Crown Prince and Crown Princess’ Fund, and youth from the fund’s projects were guests at the performance. This year The King and Queen and the Crown Prince and Crown Princess invited some of the young people they have met during their travels throughout the country to the Palace.
What it's about: Not to be confused with A Christmas Prince, this is about an ordinary blonde who lives in New York and falls in love with a handsome, British-sounding brunette prince. But the twist is, Samantha (Alexis Knapp) and Alex (Callum Alexander) have been dating for a year, and she doesn't know he's a prince. She thinks he's a lowly diplomat! But on a trip to her hometown for Christmas, Samantha learns the truth when an old classmate turns out to be a royal watcher and recognises Alex as Prince Alexander of Maldovia. Hijinks ensue!
My thoughts: I respected this movie for trying something different with the genre. The hospital setting was unique (although again, not what we're here for) and the doctor/patient angle is fresh. It's a shame it's squandered on a couple with zero chemistry. Kaitlyn Leeb had more sparks with the guy playing her brother...so, yeah, that was awkward. Also, the costumes were TERRIBLE. The movie does get points for being one of the few holiday romances with an actual non-white lead though. Oh, and Mr Sheffield from The Nanny is Alex's dad in this movie, too. Just to make things super confusing for us all.
My thoughts: I was soooo excited for this movie, which perhaps set me up for disappointment. But, like, whoever decided to make this movie less about romance and more about the failed economic policy of Aldovia messed up big time. I literally fell asleep in the middle of the movie, it was so boring. Cousin Simon was the best part of the whole thing! There was more screentime for Princess Emily's budding romance with some random guy from her school than there was for Amber and Richard. And don't even get me started on that incredibly underwhelming wedding dress.
What it's about: Maggie (Merritt Patterson) gets dragged along by her token black friend on a European holiday to Calpurnia, where she bumps into a charming guy with a British accent named Adrian (Jack Donnelly) who rides a motorbike, does magic tricks and, oh yeah, turns out to be the prince! Surprise! After some googling, Maggie discovers he has a playboy reputation, but Adrian proves to her he's REALLY got a kind heart and no commitment issues at all. He does have some daddy issues, though.
OK, so as you can see, I realised midway through that this is NOT technically a Christmas movie, because I'm pretty sure it's set in January. But it has the exact same look and feel as the other Christmas movies, what with all the snow and fake European town-ness and the strong magic vibe happening. SO I'M CHEATING AND STILL INCLUDING IT. Because I kind of loved it? Unfortunately, it loses points for the lack of Christmas trees.
What it's about: Caitlyn (Jessy Schram) is a magazine assistant with dreams of being a fashion designer. She's assigned to help plan a New Year's Eve ball with Prince Jeffrey (Sam Page) while simultaneously designing a gown for his soon-to-be fiancé Lady Isabelle. Naturally, things get very complicated when Caitlyn and Jeffrey begin to develop feelings for each other.
What it's about: Katie (Merritt Patterson, again!) is a former pro figure skater visiting San Senova who stumbles into a job coaching the young princess, Patricia, for a Christmas ice skating show. She butts heads with the king, Alexander (Andrew Cooper), who has been dubbed the "Grinch King" because of his hatred of Christmas. Except he doesn't REALLY hate Christmas, he has just been left broken-hearted by his wife's death. If only someone would skate on in to heal his heart and teach him to love Christmas...and other things... again...
My thoughts: A holiday romance with ice skating AND a hot single dad? Now you're talking my language, Hallmark. I enjoyed this movie a lot, and Andrew Coopers gravelly voice was only, like, 70% of the reason why. There was good chemistry, a suitably Christmassy palace, and lots of totally adorable moments to allow the two leads to bond. There was even a sweet little side-romance between Katie's friend Jessica and Alex's assistant Nicholas. Fun! 59ce067264
