CC House: A Modern Home in the Chihuahuan Desert by Parque Humano
CC House is a stunning example of contemporary architecture that blends with the natural landscape of the Chihuahuan Desert in Mexico. Designed by Parque Humano, a firm based in Mexico City and Los Angeles, the house is located on a 2,200 m2 plot at an elevation of 1,450 m above sea level. The house has a mixed structure of steel and concrete, with outer faces of stone that create a rapport with the surroundings. The interior walls are in white stucco, while the ceilings are lined with wood.
The house is composed of two main volumes: a floating upper level that contains the living and dining spaces, kitchen, studio and the master bedroom; and a semi-buried lower level that accommodates a multipurpose room and three bedrooms. The upper level has large windows that offer panoramic views of the city and the hills of the valley, while the lower level opens to a courtyard with a swimming pool. The house is oriented to face the east and turn its back to the winds coming from the north, taking advantage of the natural light and ventilation.
The design of CC House aims to create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, transcending conventional distinctions between inside and outside. According to Parque Humano, \"the challenge was to create a house in which each interior space is generally referred to more than one exterior\". The house also reflects the firm's commitment to sustainability, using passive strategies such as solar shading, cross ventilation, thermal mass and rainwater harvesting.
CC House was completed in 2011 and has received several awards and recognitions, such as the International Architecture Award by The Chicago Athenaeum in 2012 and the Premio Obras Cemex in 2013. The house has also been featured in various publications, such as ArchDaily[^1^], Hypebeast[^3^] and Wallpaper. CC House is a remarkable example of how architecture can enhance the quality of life and respect the environment in a challenging climate zone.
The interior design of CC House reflects the minimalist and elegant aesthetic of the exterior. The spaces are spacious and bright, with a neutral palette of white, beige and brown. The furniture is modern and comfortable, with some pieces by renowned designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen and Hans Wegner. The house also features some artworks by Mexican artists, such as a mural by Jorge MÃndez Blake and a sculpture by Josà DÃvila.
The interior spaces are connected by a central corridor that runs along the length of the house, creating a sense of continuity and fluidity. The corridor also serves as a gallery for displaying some of the owner's collection of paintings and photographs. The living and dining spaces are oriented towards the east, where large sliding glass doors open to a terrace that overlooks the city. The kitchen is located at the center of the house, with a sleek design and high-end appliances. The studio and the master bedroom are located at the opposite ends of the house, offering privacy and tranquility. The master bedroom has a walk-in closet and a bathroom with a bathtub that faces the view.
The lower level of CC House is accessed by a staircase that descends from the main floor. The multipurpose room is a flexible space that can be used as a family room, a home theater or a guest room. It has a fireplace and a bar, as well as access to the courtyard and the pool. The three bedrooms on this level are cozy and comfortable, each with its own bathroom and closet. The courtyard is a green oasis in the desert, with native plants and trees that provide shade and freshness. The pool is an infinity edge pool that merges with the horizon, creating a stunning visual effect. aa16f39245
